Every day is an adventure

I know that when life hands you lemons, you’re supposed to make lemonade.  What are you supposed to do when life throws them at you like fastballs?  I’ve gotten a lot of bruises over the past few weeks, and ducked a lot, but I’m starting to feel backed into a corner, waiting for that next sharp pain.

My wife lost her job, and being as how we both worked for the same employer, people there are treating me like the walking dead, which is kind of how it feels.  We’ve been struggling to make ends meet, but life just keeps coming.  We’ve got the worst economy of our lifetime, kids that are coming of age and entering the job market, and my ex decided to sue me for more money.  Today, I have a broken tooth that decided to flare up into a full blown toothache, and my son’s car died.  I’m feeling like an old rubber band that’s been stretched too many times.

I know I’m not beaten, though.  Just last week, and old friend I worked with back at Malibu Comics gave me a few fill in pages for the World of Warcraft comic to ink for DC/Wildstorm, and it was an absolute joy to be back in my old job for a few days.  I really want to do some more and work my way back into the business.  I was pretty rusty, but it was starting to come back to me by the time I finished.  It would be a real blessing if it turned into something more.  I've never gotten more job satisfaction from anything else.

Sometimes it feels like my creative spark is a tiny little glow in my hands, and I’m cupping them to keep the wind from blowing it out.  In time, I’ll ride the storm out and that little ember will grow into a bonfire.  I just know that my best work is still inside me, and I just need to get my body, mind and soul in tune with each other to get it into reality.

I have all of the tools I need and the ideas for stories to wield them with.  I just need the confidence and dedication to knuckle down and get some work done.  I refuse to be beaten.
